Three Oakridge residents have applied for the vacant city council seat created with the departure of Audy Spliethof.
John Caroon, Don Grant, and Christina Hollett submitted letters of application. The three applications will be reviewed by the current sitting Council this Thursday, February 9th at 6pm at a scheduled work session.
Each applicant will be interviewed by Mayor Bryan Cutchen and council during the session. The work session is open to the public and will be conducted in the council chambers at city hall. Selection of the person for the position will be done by closed balloting. The balloting will occur during the next regular session of Council on Thursday, February 16th at 6pm.
Public participation and comment, both oral and written, is encouraged. The meetings may also be attended via Zoom. The link to Zoom can be found on the city’s website.
George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
