By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — The Herald has just received word that the Oakridge/Westfir Chamber of Commerce is closing its doors. The Herald received a copy of the letter that was sent to its current members. Having tried valiantly to kickstart the organization over a number of years, The Chamber’s president and board of directors made the decision to deactivate the Chamber.
Jude Anderson, current president of the Chamber, has sent letters to its members notifying them that they will cease operation on or before April 1, 2025. The letter also includes contact information for members whio have questions or concerns.
George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
