By DOUG BATES/Editor/The Herald — The parts of Oakridge-Westfir that were placed Sunday on Level 1 ‘BE READY’ evacuation notice received a new notice Tuesday resetting the warning at Level 2 ‘BE SET,’ while the rest of the community was placed at Level 1 as a result of the unstable and unpredictable Kwis Fire on Salmon Creek, just east of the community.
The Level 2 evacuation notice applies to the High Prairie and fish hatchery areas, Oakridge north of Roberts Road, and Oakridge east of Salmon Creek. According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Level 2 “means that you must prepare to leave at a moment’s notice, and this may be the only notice that you receive.”
“There is significant danger in your area,” the notice said. “You should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or outside of the affected area. If you choose to remain, be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice.”
The Level 1 evacuation notice applies to “both sides of the river, including Deception Creek Mobile Park, and the Hills Creek Reservoir area south of Highway 58 to Larison Cove.”
The Herald will update this post as more information about the Middle Fork Complex fires is made available.
