By DOUG BATES/Editor/The Herald — The pandemic has put the kibosh on traditional parades and pageantry, but there will still be an Oakridge-Westfir Tree Planting Festival, and it will be here soon.
Festival planners have announced a preliminary schedule of festival events for the weekend of April 30-May 2, and they promise to fill in many of the blanks with a new festival website to be launched on Thursday, April 22.
This year’s 68th Annual Oakridge Westfir Tree Planting Festival will be a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual events, activities and presentations. The festival committee asks that all participants follow coronavirus health and safety guidelines and planners ask for community understanding and forbearance as the schedule is finalized in the next few days.
“We are doing the best we can, with what we have,” said Festival Secretary Amy Prince of Oakridge. The theme, she said, will be “Trees, Hope & Growth.”
She said the festival is now accepting submissions for a virtual talent show. The winner will be announced on the new festival website and will perform live at the coronation ceremony detailed in the schedule below. Email or DropBox submissions to [email protected]. To see what video formats are acceptable, see supported video formats.
