A band of concerned citizens gathered near Hills Creek Dam on Saturday, Sept. 25, to begin the huge task of cleaning up trash that’s been dumped along roads and streams in the Upper Willamette.
Organized by Jay Skordahl of Westfir, the work party planned to gather at the road junction below the dam, by the Davidson rock quarry east of Oakridge.
“We will focus on the South Bank Road and surrounding area where we will find “dirty camps” as well as garbage dumping along the roadway,” Skordahl said.
The cleanup effort will be followed by public discussion of possible solutions to the growing problem of “non-recreational” illegal camping around the community, he added.
