In the photo: 1971 Oakridge grad Clif Wegner is on the left. 1971 Pleasant Hill grad Russ Cameron is on the right. They played basketball and baseball against each other beginning in Jr. High. They’ve reconnected recently after 50 years. Clif is Head basketball coach at Clackamas Community College. Cameron is a semi-retired news videographer who currently does work for the PAC12 Network.
Doug Bates, Editor Emeritus for The Herald remembers Clif: “I have followed Clif’s career ever since he was a standout student and star athlete at Oakridge High School. He went on to become a distinguished educator and tremendously successful coach. We finally met about 20 years ago, and I am proud to be his friend and share his Upper Willamette roots.”
George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
