By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — Rest easy Oakridgians, the ODOT trucks and machines you saw Tuesday in town are not the leading edge of a larger construction project. We need our summer traffic. It’s our life blood of revenue. From the motels starting at each end of Oakridge to the restaurants and shops in between, we rely on having easy access to our businesses.
The safety cones and trucks are only in Oakridge long enough to clean the gutters and curbs along the highway through town. You will stir up a little dust as you travel in the slow lane. That’s a small price to pay for having a dirt and weed-free approach to the businesses that line the Hwy 58 through our town.
George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
