By DOUG BATES/Editor/The Herald — They came from all points of the compass — from Bend, the beach, big Oregon towns and little ones, from as far north as Portland and Vancouver, and as far south as the Bay Area — to compete in Oakridge’s first big coming-out party at the community’s new disc golf course.

Saturday’s Mountain Town Throwdown attracted 72 registrants — the maximum allowed under COVID-19 safety rules for disc golf tournaments– and the mountain town came through with ideal weather for the fast-growing sport.

The trophy winners are identified in The Herald’s accompanying story, but the real story is perhaps best captured in this gallery of photos from the competition itself at Oakridge’s Old Mill Disc Golf Course near the confluence of Salmon Creek and the Middle Fork of the Willamette River.
