By MIKE MILANDIN/for The Herald  —  Moon Falls is located on Alex creek on the west edge of the Umpqua Forest. It totals 100 feet fall in one wide veiling cascade. It drops over a sharp protrusion of basalt which causes veiling of the cascade the entire distance to the pool.

This wide angle HDR (high dynamic range) photo was produced from merging 3 photos exposed from 1.5 to 6.5 seconds. In this way the HDR photo can not only smooth the water, but also show objects in the foreground that were hidden by shadow along with the falls which were brightly lit by the sun. The camera is a fuji xt-5, and the lens is a fuji 10-24mm zoom, set to 10mm. I used an ND8 filter and, as the sun was high, I set the iso to 125 and the aperture to f/13.

Mike Milandin lives in the Oakridge area and is a amateur photographer.
