CORVALLIS, Ore. — More than 3,700 graduates took part in Oregon State University’s commencement ceremony on Saturday at OSU’s Reser Stadium.
A total of 7,338, students graduated this year from OSU’s Corvallis campus, Ecampus and OSU-Cascades in Bend. The Corvallis ceremony began at 10:30 a.m. and celebrated the university’s 154th graduating class.
The commencement speaker was Dr. Charity Dean, OSU alumna, CEO of the Public Health Company and former co-chair of the state of California’s COVID-19 testing task force. She offered this advice to assembled graduates:
“This is the lesson I have learned: We become the stories we tell. It’s a frightening thought but it’s true: You will become the story you tell about yourself. But it’s also hopeful: you have a choice.
“As you go out from here, OSU graduating class of 2023, you are setting out to tell a story. I know that every one of you can tell it wisely. I know that every one of you can tell it well. But I also know that you cannot avoid telling it, and that the version you choose will shape you.”
