By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — A Political Action Committee, or PAC, has been formed to support candidates for Mayor and several Council seats in Oakridge. The PAC is registered as Tap Root PAC and can be found on the Secretary of State of Oregon’s registration site. Local resident and part-time volunteer reporter for The Herald, Gary Carl, organized the committee. Irene Grant is the named Treasurer.
The PAC was formed to lend financial support to Bryan Cutchen for Mayor. The PAC also supports Don Grant, Rick Zylstra, and Dirk “Poncho” Tarman for City Council.
Carl has been relieved of his reporting duties on all matters pertaining to Oakridge city government to preclude any perception of, or actual, political bias. He will be reinstated once elections are concluded. In the meantime, Gary will be assigned to report on other news and personal interest stories for our readership.
The Highway 58 Herald has a strict policy of fair, accurate, and unbiased news reporting. Mr. Carl recently reported on the subcommittee for a special fire district. That article was submitted and published before The Herald was aware of Carl’s establishing the PAC.
