Due to the Cedar Creek Fire, A Level 3 evacuation was implemented for the cities
of Oakridge and Westfir at approximately 7:45 PM on Friday, September 9.
On Sunday, September 11 at approximately 11:45 AM, Oakridge and Westfir were
downgraded to a Level 2 evacuation level which allowed residents to return to
their homes. During this time period, Oakridge police personnel with assistance
from Junction City Police personnel, were actively conducting neighborhood
patrols.
During this time period, the Oakridge Police Department has handled two
burglaries, two attempted burglaries, and two prowler calls.
This data is likely not complete due to some people still returning to their
residences. Any residents who have discovered thefts/burglaries can report them
to the Oakridge Police Department
George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
