Roots of Empathy will return to East Lane public schools in the fall thanks to 90by30. This is one of our most successful strategies, so far, as we work towards preventing child abuse. This strategy is in practice in countries around the world and has a proven record including data that shows this strategy decreases aggressive behaviors, decreases bullying, and teaches children empathy.

A we move towards fall East Lane Region of 90by30 is working to recruit moms having babies between July and October. These will be the “infant teachers” in our classrooms. These babies and their caregivers will be present in First Grade classrooms in Lowell, Oakridge, and Pleasant Hill. In addition, there will be a Roots class in the sixth grade classroom at Lowell.

If you are or know someone who is having a baby between June and October 2022, please contact Sara Loveless at [email protected], or call Susan Hardy at 541-912-3308.

90by30 is also looking for 3 volunteer instructors in Pleasant Hill and 2 volunteer instructors in Oakridge. Lowell has a trained volunteer instructor for their Roots of Empathy classes, who has been active with this program for the last several years. If you can think of someone who would like to be part of this process, please have them contact either Sara or Susan. We are asking for help to find the people who will be part of the Roots classrooms this fall.

Training for Roots of Empathy instructors will take place October 10 through October 12. The training will be provided in Eugene at a location to be announced.

If you would like to know more about Roots of Empathy, please contact Sara or Susan to talk about this amazing program.
