A 30-year-old Oakridge man was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday, Aug. 2, after the Lane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a dispute with shots fired at a property in the 48000 block of Westoak Road.
Reports of the dispute came in just after 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1. While en route deputies were advised that during the dispute among residents, 30-year-old Nicholas Banks had armed himself with a handgun and began shooting into the air in the front yard of the location. Banks reportedly threatened to kill anyone who exited the residence, reports said.
Deputies arrived on scene and were able to summon the other occupants of the property to safety. Banks, still believed to be armed, had gone back inside the residence.
Banks did not respond to commands and remained in the residence for several hours until he eventually surrendered at around 5:30 a.m., reports said. He was safely taken into custody at this time.
Banks was transported to the Lane County Jail and lodged on charges that include menacing, reckless endangering and unlawful use of a weapon. A handgun believed to be involved in the incident was recovered during the investigation.
City of Oakridge police assisted in responding to the incident.
