Twin sisters Audra Chapman, the salutatorian, and Katie Chapman, one of the valedictorians, welcome watchers in person and on live stream with a humorous speech during the graduation ceremony.
By LYDIA PLAHN/Correspondent/The Herald — “It was undeniable that our class was handed the short end of the stick . . . but you know what, we did it anyway,” Ashley Woodhurst, a valedictorian, said in her speech Friday night during Lowell High School’s graduation ceremony.
She referred to the challenges her class faced during the pandemic and how students persevered until they were able to walk across the rented stage during the sunny year-end festivities.
The graduates crossed the Lowell High School football field to receive their diplomas following a parade through the community. The stage was decorated with the class flower, the red rose, and with the school colors, red, white and black.
Throughout the ceremony, there were multiple performances by the high school virtual choir, every valedictorian spoke and the graduates heard their class song, “Good Old Days,” by Macklemore Feat Kesha.
This year’s class had four valedictorians: Katie Chapman, Matthew Peters, Lucy Plahn and Ashley Woodhurst. The salutatorian was Audra Chapman.
