The flower baskets are up on 1st Street; spring must be officially here

By KEVIN GOBELMAN/for The Herald  —  Now that spring has sprung UBRA is in full swing beautifying the Uptown Business District.

A group of volunteers hung the prepared baskets on Wednesday using a ladder. The first watering of the season occurred Saturday May 25th using an Inbound engine provided by Dillon. Mick and Kevin manned the rig.
There are still baskets available for sponsorship; the cost is $100.00. Your sponsorship includes a plaque engraved with your name on it, or dedicated in memory of a loved one.
The Uptown Business and Revitalization Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the vitality and livability of Uptown Oakridge.
UBRA is a member of Oregon Main Street, a community foundation dedicated to uplifting downtown areas across Oregon. As a member, UBRA seeks grant funding to help pay for building and infrastructure improvements.
UBRA’s projects are for everyone, some recent projects include:
• hanging flower baskets on 1st Street during the summer months, and lighted snowflakes during the winter months
• posting the flags along 1st Street on national holidays
• helping create the flower garden at the Tanner lot
• building bike racks for the Uptown Oakridge area
• painting art on the crosswalks and around storm drains in Uptown Oakridge
UBRA is a group of individuals and business owners passionate about finding ways to make this awesome little town even more awesome…

George Custer lives in Oakridge with his wife Sayre. George is a former smokejumper from his hometown of Cave Junction, a former captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. and ran a construction company in Southern California. George assumed the volunteer duties as the Editor of the Highway 58 Herald in 2022. He loves riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, building all things wood, and playing drums on the weekends in his office.
