The Sloth: Our Spirit within us

“But, on the other hand, everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a Spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we, with our modest powers, must feel humble.” – Albert Einstein

I can live with that. If one of the great intellects in human history can accept there is a ‘Spirit’ that cannot be proven through the scientific method, who am I to disagree. Einstein gives me hope for peace.

We should accept that a sense of ‘spirit’ can never be explained through math or physical data. We Can say our ‘perception’ of a Spirit/God is very real and does have an effect on our behavior.

Reality: there are thousands of religions/sects that have VERY different images of the Spirit’s character, from God as the racist Hitler, to the gentle non-violent life of Gandhi and Jesus.

If you think your own Religious Spirit/image is, or should be identical to all people well, you need to think again. We each have unique life experiences and each of us senses the Spirit in a way that fits our personal history.

It is harmful to think our personal perception of the Universe, including ‘God’ is, or should be, identical to other people. This drive for ‘sameness’ has caused the cruel deaths of millions of people at the hands of religious absolutism. With human power growing, that self-centeredness may well destroy our planet.

The ‘Spirit’ that Einstein refers to is simply beyond the very short evolution of humans to know. Any particular religious institutions that tries to claim ‘certainty’ about the roots of creation is guessing. We are babies in the universe.

If we expect tolerance for our own belief system, it is wise to do the same for others.
