TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH IS ELECTION DAY. Voting is not just a right, it’s an obligation. Complacency at the polls breeds a government that will take advantage of the blind loyalty you gave them by not caring enough to cast your ballot.
If your elected officials don’t hear from you, they will do what they think is best. But, will it be in your best interest or theirs? Even if you don’t like who is running, write in who you want, but don’t not vote.
Many of you may still remember the city of Bell, California and how they learned the hard way how local journalism and local involvement matters. While local news budgets shrank leaving fewer reporters to cover city politics, city officials misappropriated funds and voted themselves substantial raises that made them among the highest paid local officials in the country. When Bell went bankrupt, these same officials tried to have the city pay for their legal fees. Why did they do this? The citizens of Bell didn’t get involved. Examples of this type of complacency can be found everywhere. Your government is what you make it to be.
So, if you think that everything will be what it will be, don’t bother to get involved. If you believe otherwise, rally your friend and neighbors and get out and VOTE!
