Volunteers for UBRA clean up Banner Park last week in the historic Uptown district of Oakridge. The Herald

The weather gods blessed the handful of volunteers who arrived early one morning last week at Banner Park. A nice cloud cover kept temperatures tolerable for the team, armed with gardening tools of various types, who were focused on cleaning and weeding the park. Banner Park lies across the street from its namesake: Banner Bank.

On board for the event were Mick Garvin, president of UBRA, the Uptown Business Revitalization Association; Lynda Kamerrer, Oakridge Westfir Area Chamber of Commerce president; Oakridge Mayor Kathy Holson; Gary Carl and George Custer.
Weeds were pulled, thirsty plants and trees were watered, and a quick sweep of the sidewalks capped a successful work party.
Part of the Uptown Business and Revitalization Association’s mission is help attract businesses to the historic Uptown district by improving its aesthetics while supporting the area residents’ desire for an attractive neighborhood.
