By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor/The Herald — When I travel and talk with people I meet, I tell them that I’m from Oregon. Often the first words in response are “doesn’t it rain all the time up there?” “Well, no, but we do get our fair share of it. If it didn’t rain, it wouldn’t be the beautiful place that it is.” I respond.
I was in the 3 Legged Crane yesterday afternoon, Friday. It was raining lightly with the sun mostly shining through. Nice, I thought. I then noticed that everyone was rushing outside and talking excitedly. I assumed that there was some sort of minor commotion going on. People were smiling so I figured it must be something good and worth seeing. When I did go outside, I was treated to this beautiful rainbow in the picture above. There had been a second one below it, but it faded quickly.
We’ve all seen rainbows. Some are just more awe inspiring than others. This one’s right end appeared to drop right onto First Street near the end of town. We’ve had a bit of rain as of lately, so we’re all feeling like fall is nearly over and winter isn’t far off. This rainbow helped to remind me that we should embrace the rain, snow, and chilly weather. We need this weather to have the paradise we have and cherish.
