Willamette National Forest Reduces Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires Closure Order

Detroit, Ore.— The Willamette National Forest reduced the closure order for the Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires area on the Detroit Ranger District. The closure order will be in effect through June 8, 2024, unless rescinded or modified sooner.

Breitenbush Campground, Cleator Bend Campground, Humbug Campground and Woodpecker Trailhead are now open to the public. Campground reservations can be made on or by calling 1.877.444.6777.

The Woodpecker Ridge Trail is accessible all the way to the Pacific Crest Trail, however, most of the Pacific Crest Trail, including heading north towards Jefferson Park, remain under six to eight feet of snow. For the latest conditions, call the Detroit Ranger District at 503-854-3366.

Starting June 15, visitors using the Woodpecker Ridge Trailhead to access Mt. Jefferson Wilderness will need a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit for overnight use (obtained on or for a day trip, a free self-issue day use wilderness permit available at the trailhead.

Woodpecker Ridge Trailhead is the most northern trailhead open to public use in the Central Cascades Wilderness Permit system; the Breitenbush Lake, South Breitenbush, Triangulation Peak, and Whitewater Trailheads remain closed until further notice.

All reservations for Central Cascades Wilderness Permits can be made on, via the app, or by calling the call center at 1-877-444-6777 or TDD 877-833-6777. Search for “Central Cascades Wilderness.” Permits are not available at Forest Service offices. Please see our website for more information:

Forest Service Road (FSR) 46 remains closed to motorized vehicles from the intersection of FSR 4685 to the Mt. Hood National Forest boundary. This means that people cannot drive from Detroit to Estacada.
