William Jerome DuMont, known to his family and friends as Bill, passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born on November 8th, 1933, in Wadena Minnesota to Anthony and Eleanor DuMont. He was the fourth of five children. When he was a small child, the family moved to Oakridge Oregon where Anthony went to work for the Union Pacific railroad. As a young man, Bill excelled in all sports and was most fond of football. He also enjoyed track and field where he held the pole vault record for over 10 years after graduating from Oakridge High in 1953. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean conflict. Upon being discharged in 1955, he returned to Oakridge where he met Janet Siegel. They were married in 1956, and Bill soon went to work on the construction of Hills Creek reservoir. After this, he worked in the woods for Pope and Talbot Lumber company as well as running crusher for J Davidson & Sons construction. Later in life, he was employed by the Oakridge school district and at age 63 retired. In 2001, Bill and Janet bought the local business McGillicuddy’s and would spend the next 12 years serving the community and making many friends. Bill is survived by his wife Janet; children Dena Bluemmel; Tony DuMont; Dotte Zojonc; and Jana Howery, as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM January 18th at St Michael Catholic Church in Oakridge, OR.
