UPDATE 8/6: Windigo, Potter and Cedar Creek Fires

The Cedar Creek Fire is 900 acres burning near Waldo Lake in the Oregon Cascade Range.

The Herald  — The U.S. Forest Service reported yesterday afternoon that the Windigo, now mapped at 1,046  acres as of this morning, is said to be 5% contained.

The Potter Fire is zero percent contained because of the difficulty of the terrain. However, with the help of lower winds and slightly cooler weather, this fire is being closely monitored and a strategy is in place to combat it.

The Cedar Creek Fire continues to burn and has been officially mapped at 1,438 acres. Though zero percent contained as of 8:00 a.m. this morning, ground crews, tankers, and aviation assets have been allocated to this fire and lines are being built at the perimeter.

Resources have been responding to several fires actively burning in the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests.

The Windigo fire, off FS Road 60 on the Douglas & Klamath county divide has consumed approximately 1,100 acres. A closure is underway on the Pacific Crest trail (#2000) near the fire. More information forthcoming.

The Cedar Creek Fire, located 3.5 west of Waldo Lake and twelve miles east of Oakridge, has burned over 1,200 acres. The Waldo Lake Wilderness has been closed. Also, campers and all recreational activities are being told to evacuate the area. Winds, however, are pushing the fire north and east and authorities are stating that the fire currently poses no threat to Oakridge.

Spread the word to stay away from Waldo Lake area

People who may be aware of friends planning to head to the Waldo Lake area are asked to inform them that the area is closed

Farther north and east, the Potter fire has spread to over 125 acres.

All three fires have zero containment currently.

This story will be updated as information becomes available.
