By DEAN REA/Correspondent/The Herald—A suspect is being held in the shooting death of a Pleasant Hill woman and the injury of a man who was transported to a hospital Tuesday morning, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies spotted the suspect armed with a handgun hiding in the bushes next to the driveway where the incident occurred, police said. He surrendered and was taken into custody.
Deputies said they received a 911 call at 6:34 a.m. that someone had been shot at a residence on Highway 58 near Hilltop Drive. Deputies and Oregon State Police officers found the woman who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and the man with a head wound. Before being transported to the hospital, the man told officers that his handgun was missing from the residence.
A small child related to the victims was found unharmed in the residence and was placed in the custody of family members.
