By GEORGE CUSTER/Editor– Though originally celebrated in New York on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union, Labor Day wasn’t signed into Federal law until June 28, 1894, by President Grover Cleveland. The signed law, making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday, has been celebrated every year henceforth.
To most of us, we recognize this day as the end of Summer. Schools goes back into session soon for those that haven’t already started. If the weather is good, there will be lots of barbequing with friends and family. Many will be heading home from camping, visiting relatives, or maybe a weekend on the beach.
Our wonderful country was, and continues to be, built on the backs, hands, and brains of dedicate, hard-working people. America has prospered, thrived, and has been so enriched by a diverse work force of men and women from all walks of life and from around the globe.
We salute you.
