Raffle Items Help Create Belated Christmas for American Legion Post
By GEORGE CUSTER/The Herald
The American Legion Post 64, Oakridge chapter, has received a belated Christmas gift in the form of a donation check for $1,100 from the Oakridge Disc Golf Club. A fundraising tournament was held on Jan. 15 at the new disc golf course located in the Oakridge Industrial Park. All proceeds were earmarked to be donated to a local veterans organization.
Jason Nehmer, the president of the club, and Jon Bongiorno were the organizers of the event. The par-60 course encompasses a good portion of the 22 acres that were recently designated parks and open spaces. Each “hole” is sponsored by a local business or organization and has a name and a historical write-up, all referencing local history.
More than 50 raffle items helped with raising the funds. The items included a handmade quilt donated by City Councilor Bobbie Whitney.
On hand for the presentation of a check to the post from Nehmer was David Borton; Richard Evans, current commander; Skip Baker, post adjutant; John Milandin, 1st vice-commander; and Skip Beard, post member.
If you head over to the course on a sunny day to toss a disc around — at no charge — you’ll probably run into some club members who will gladly tour their championship-level course with you.
